Frequently Asked Questions About Electrolysis

What Is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is the only proven method of PERMANENT  hair removal.  This is a very important distinction.  For many years products and procedures ( like laser, waxing, tweezing, threading and home remedies ) have failed to produce similar safe, effective, and permanent results on all hair and skin types for all ages.

How Does Electrolysis Work?

Electrolysis is accomplished by directing a small amount of energy into the natural opening of the hair follicle.  This gradually weakens and ultimately eliminates the hair producing cells. Without these cells, hair cannot grow.

Are Treatments  Uncomfortable?

Most clients find the first treatment much more comfortable than they had anticipated.  Some find the sensation to sting, or feel heat, while others feel nothing more than a slight itch.  Each hair follicle is surrounded by nerve endings responsible for the sensitivity one feels during the treatment.  Sensitivity can vary greatly for each individual follicle.  Everyone has a different tolerance level and some areas are more sensitive than others, adjustments can be made to help the treatment be more comfortable.  The use of special numbing creams and other safe methods can aid people with special sensitivity needs.

What Are The Side Effects?

Immediately following treatment, there may be a slight redness and /or swelling which usually disappears within a few hours.  Occasionally, small whiteheads or tiny scabs may occur.  Whiteheads usually are indicative of bacteria entering the follicle after treatment. Remember to keep the area as clean as possible for the 24 hours immediately following treatment.  When electrolysis is correctly administered there should be no permanent skin damage.

How Many Treatments Does It Take To Be Permanent?

Electrolysis requires a series of treatments.  With each treatment, you will notice visible improvement.  The length of each session may vary from 15 - 60 minutes  (or longer in some cases ).  The amount of time needed for treatment is determined by the size of the area being treated and how dense the hair is.  Committing to the recommended treatment schedule and consistency is most important to achieve effective results.  The cost is a small price to pay for the physical and psychological benefits from being free of unwanted hair.

Electrolysis  vs  Laser And Waxing?

Laser hair removal promoters use terms such as "permanent reduction" to describe what is in most cases only proven to be a temporary method of hair removal.  Laser hair removal is still a relatively new science and has not been evaluated for long-term safety of skin and health.  Electrolysis, which has been in use since 1875, is the only proven, safe method to permanently remove hair with no long-term side effects.  Tweezing, threading and waxing are alike and can increase hair growth and ingrown hairs.  Depilatories and shaving cause skin irritation, and hair growth returns quickly.  These temporary methods may seem inexpensive but cost more in the long run.

 What Causes Unwanted Hair Growth?

Excessive hair growth can be attributed to many things.  The most common causes are hormonal changes, blood supply ( tweezing and waxing ) and heredity.  Any biological change in life can increase hair growth, such as puberty, pregnancy, childbirth, menopause and aging.  Side effects of medication, stress or an endocrine disorder may also contribute to excessive growth.

What Are The Benefits Of Using New Technology?

After many years of intense research, the Apilus Platinum Pure has revolutionized the field of electrology.  The patented design of the Apilus Platinum Pure machine uses an ultrarapid 27MHz frequency to permanently and quickly destroy all types of hair.  Since it works twice as fast as any other epilator, the Apilus Platinum is able to coagulate, in a very concentrated fashion, the cells responsible for hair growth.  This equates to one very important fact.  You will be receiving a very effective/comfortable treatment
